The effective data of Figure 5 analysed in an ideal cohort study consisting of two pairs of twins which are supposed to form a quadruplet of exchangeable subjects, cmp Figures 1 and 2. The pairs are indexed by a and b: the twins in pair a are assumed to have been smokers, those in pair b non-smokers; da(1), db(1) are death times of the asbestos exposed and da(2), db(2) are death times of the twins not exposed to asbestos. The effective cause of death, lung cancer LC or heart attack HA, are denoted at age at death, accordingly.
